Newport News Historic Services is pleased to offer a range of educational programs that engage students in visual arts, multimedia, hands-on, and critical thinking exercises. School field trips are available at Historic Endview, Lee Hall Depot, and the Virginia War Museum. Our trained museum educators meet your curricular needs with programs aligned to the new 2023 Virginia Standards of Learning.
Historic Endview
Visit Historic Endview to immerse your students in the rich history of Newport News. Programs offered at Endview include Experiences of Civil War and Life of a Civil War Soldier and explore ways that different populations were affected by the American Civil War. Programs are designed to last two hours, including a guided exploration of the historic house. Historic Endview can accommodate up to 75 students. If your group is larger, please contact us so we can schedule your visit over multiple days.
Lee Hall Depot
The Lee Hall Depot gives students an opportunity to learn about the impact of railroads and on American society. Our two hour From Here to There program includes a tour of the historic train station and caboose and builds on students’ geographic skills to illustrate how the railroad connected communities across the state, country, and world. The Depot can accommodate up to 75 students. If your group is larger, please contact us so we can schedule your visit over multiple days.
Virginia War Museum
At the Virginia War Museum, students come face to face with Americans’ struggle for freedom from 1775 to the present. Education program topics include World War I, World War II at home and abroad, the Holocaust, and propaganda. All programs include an interactive lesson in our theater as well as a facilitated exploration of the Museum. Programs last two hours and accommodate up to 60 students. If your group is larger, please contact us so we can schedule your visit over multiple days.
