Historic Sites

The City of Newport News maintains historic sites including mills and former military redoubts. These sites are unstaffed, but the grounds are open to the public from dawn to dusk daily. Historic sites include:

Causey’s Mill (1866)

Dam #1 Battlefield Site (circa 1862)

Historic Warwicktowne (active 1680-1813, 1862)

Lee’s Mill Earthworks (circa 1862, on the site of Lee’s Mill)

1810 and 1884 Warwick Courthouses

Young’s Mill (1820)

Congress and Cumberland Overlook (1862)

Monitor-Merrimack Overlook (1862)

Potter’s Field (1893-1961)

Queen’s Hith (circa 1632)

Skiffe’s Creek Redoubt (1862)
